The Braxmeier Home

Dr. Anton Braxmeier enlisted Nick Ressler to help with the architecture of the Cape Cod & Ressler style home, and together they laid out the original design of the home. Construction began in June of 1939 and was completed in 1940. During that time Dr. and Mrs. Braxmeier lived in the Lewis and Clark Hotel.
Dr. Braxmeier, who practiced dentistry until his retirement, and his wife Helga, were very prominent citizens of Mandan. They were involved in community organizations.
Even after Helga’s death, Dr. Braxmeier continued to live in the home. It was sold to its current and second owners, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Bumb, in 1977.
When the Bumbs purchased the home, Dr. Braxmeier told them that at the time the home was constructed it only cost him $15,000. He was very proud of it, as he told them that he had paid for it in cash on the day he and his wife moved in.
The Bumbs have worked diligently to retain the original conditions of the home, with only minor updates on maintenance free siding and fiber glass shingles. They have not changed any of the original details of the interior of the home, which only adds to the history and originality of the home.
